FAQs

Get Your Questions Answered

1. I live outside of the state of Florida. Can I receive treatment from BeNu Integrative Psychiatry?

• BeNu Integrative Psychiatry primarily provides care through telepsychiatry while offering select in-person services at our Orange Park, Florida location for patients in the Greater Jacksonville Area.

• Your BeNu provider's ability to treat you depends on their licensure. All of our providers are licensed in Florida, with some also licensed in other states. As required by state laws and telehealth regulations, your provider can only treat and prescribe for patients residing in the states where they hold a license.

• Please contact our team to confirm which provider can legally treat you based on your location, as licensing laws may restrict services for individuals outside the licensed states.

2. Which insurance carriers does BeNu Integrative Psychiatry accept?

See our Payments + Prices page for details.

3. What are your patient fees for services?

See our Service Pricing for details.

4. I need a letter or form filled out. How long can I expect this to take?

• Allow up to 7 to 14 days for the completion of paperwork.

• Please note there is an additional fee for this service per our Service Pricing.

5. Will I receive therapy with medication management?

• You will receive supportive therapy during your visits with a BeNu mental health care provider. However, many patients pursue additional therapy to address specific issues.

• If you are interested in additional therapy, you can request to schedule an appointment with our experienced counselor, Kelly Mitchell, LMHC, NCC.

• Our team can also assist you in finding the right therapist for your needs.

• You can search on Psychology Today, which is a valuable resource for locating therapists who meet your specific requirements.

6. What are BeNu Integrative Psychiatry’s requirements for staying on a Suboxone maintenance plan?

• To continue your Suboxone treatment, you are expected to have monthly appointments with a BeNu mental health care provider.

• You will also need to participate in regular urine drug screens, for which you are responsible for both the cost and the arrangements with a reputable laboratory.

• It is important that you engage in a recovery program, such as Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Celebrate Recovery, or SMART Recovery.

• If outpatient treatment is ineffective, a BeNu mental health care provider will refer you to a more intensive treatment program than what can be offered through telepsychiatry.

7. How often should I expect to be seen by a BeNu provider?

• After your initial visit, you will be scheduled for a follow-up appointment within 2 to 4 weeks.

• After this, follow-up appointments are generally once a month for at least the first year of treatment.

• If you and your provider determine it is appropriate to extend the time between your visits, then your appointments may be scheduled every 2 to 3 months.

• The standard of care for mental health treatment is a minimum of 1 visit every 3 months.

• For specific medications that legally cannot have automatic refills and require more careful monitoring, you will be required to attend appointments at least once a month.

8. I know medications are just one part of getting better, and I want the most out of my treatment. What else should I be doing?

• Aim for consistent sleep, getting 6 to 8 hours each night.

• Upon waking, drink at least one liter of water.

• Take high-quality daily vitamins and minerals; ALIVE vitamins are a good choice and easy to find. Most people benefit from extra magnesium, B vitamins, vitamin D3, CoQ10, and omega-3 fatty acids.

• Maintain a balanced and healthy diet.

• Walk or exercise for at least 15 to 30 minutes every day.

• Journal regularly, including tracking your mood.

• Build a supportive community by joining support groups or small activity groups.

• Have regular check-ups and blood work completed with your primary care provider.

• Implement stress reduction strategies to lower cortisol levels (stress hormones that can cause weight gain, sleep disturbances, anxiety, and inflammation in the body).

• Consider additional therapy or counseling as needed. If interested, call/text BeNu at (904) 544-3608 or email [email protected] to inquire if our in-house BeNu therapist, Kelly L. Mitchell, LMHC, NCC has availability. We also recommend using PsychologyToday.com to search for therapists in your area and per your preferences and needs.

9. I am going to run out of medication before my next appointment. What should I do?

• It is always a good idea to call/text the BeNu office (904) 544-3608 when you have no less than a one-week supply of medication left. See our Service Pricing regarding refills.

• If you are running low over the weekend, consider taking half of your normal prescribed dose or taking the medication as prescribed every other day to make it last until you can obtain a refill.

Please note that medications are generally not refilled without an appointment. If an emergency refill is granted, it will be for a duration of 7 to 14 days and may incur a charge for each prescription.

10. I will be traveling outside of my residential state or country. Can I get refills of my medications?

• Planning Ahead: Well before traveling, discuss options for extended supplies with your BeNu provider. If you are traveling for an extended period or temporarily residing in a different state or country, we recommend establishing care with a provider licensed in the location where you will be staying to ensure continuity of treatment and access to necessary medication refills.

• Controlled Substances: The rules for prescribing controlled substances can differ by state and country, which may limit access while traveling. Your BeNu provider can only refill a controlled substance prescription via a scheduled appointment and if you are picking up the refill in a state where they are licensed (for example, Florida).

Cost of non-controlled prescription refill request with approval by your provider and without an appointment = $35 per non-controlled prescription refill request. See our Service Pricing for details.

• Traveling Abroad: Some medications may be restricted internationally. Always carry your prescribed medications in their original containers with copies of the prescriptions.

• Local Laws: Check the medication regulations in your travel location to ensure compliance and avoid issues.

11. How do I prepare for my telehealth appointment via Tebra?

• See our Patient Portal page for guidance on using the Tebra platform for telehealth.

Using a laptop, desktop, or tablet is required for all telehealth appointments. We do no recommend using a mobile phone due to frequent poor connectivity, which detracts from your valuable appointment time with your provider.

Please sign in at least 10 minutes before your scheduled appointment time using the telehealth appointment link you received via text or email. This allows for time to troubleshoot any connection, audio, or visual issues that can occur with telehealth.

• If you are unable to sign in for your appointment, call/text (904) 544-3608 before your scheduled appointment to request assistance and to avoid a no-show/late-cancellation fee.

12. How do I access and navigate my Tebra Patient Portal?

See our Patient Portal page for instructions.

Contact BeNu at (904) 544-3608 to request this service with the receiving provider's name, facility location, and email/fax number. You will receive an email/mobile text from BeNu/Tebra to complete an Authorization for Release of Information to process this request. Once completed, BeNu will send your requested medical records to your provider within 7-14 days from your request unless a specific deadline is noted.

You may also access the Tebra Patient Portal to Download Your Health Record for yourself or to present to another provider.

1. From the Health Records page, you can download your health records.

2. Click Action.

3. Select Download Health Record.

4. The Download Health Records pop-up window opens.

15. How do I make a payment for copays or self-pay services?

See our Payments + Prices page for instructions.

16. When will I be charged for my copays or self-pay services?

⚠️ All insurance copays and self-pay service payments are due at the time the services are rendered.

💳 If you have a credit/debit/HSA/FSA card on file with BeNu, this card will be charged for the payment due the day the service is rendered or by the end of the same week. Please plan to have funds in these accounts for this charge accordingly. If you need to update your card on file, call BeNu at (904) 544-3608.

⚠️ Account balances must be paid before an appointment/service or your appointment will be rescheduled or cancelled.

See our Service Pricing for details.

17. I want to be evaluated for ADHD or a Cognitive Impairment. What do I need to do to prepare for the initial evaluation?

⚠️ All Patients Seeking Evaluation/Treatment for ADHD or Cognitive Impairment:

If No Prior Diagnosis: You will be required to complete a computerized cognitive test via Creyos testing. If you are a New Patient, we recommend completing this test prior to your New Patient Initial Psychiatric Evaluation appointment. Please see the Integrative Assessments pricing below for more information.

If History of Diagnosis: If you have been diagnosed by another provider, you must submit medical records/documentation of the diagnosis/treatment prior to receiving treatment for ADHD. Submitting any previous related testing results is also recommended. If you are unable to provide medical documentation of a previous diagnosis/treatment, you will be required to complete a computerized cognitive test via Creyos testing. Please see the Integrative Assessments pricing below for more information.

Autism Spectrum Disorder: BeNu providers are not currently certified to conduct formal standardized testing, such as the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS-2), to diagnose Autism Spectrum Disorder in children or adults.

Integrative Assessments for Cognitive Evaluations (e.g., ADHD or Cognitive Impairment): $97.00 current special for unlimited cognitive testing via Creyos for one year until further notice.

⚠️ Advisory: All new and established patients are billed separately for this integrative assessment, in addition to their insurance plans, or if uninsured, as a self-pay service. Payment is required prior to administering the assessment. Call/text BeNu at (904) 544-3608 to request to be billed for the test. After payment is received, you will be sent an email from Creyos/BeNu (Dr. Angela White ARNP) with a link to complete the cognitive test from your personal space of choice. Assessments should ideally be taken in a quiet environment without distractions. For more information about Creyos testing, visit: https://try.creyos.com/patient-resources.

See our Service Pricing for more information.

18. What is your No-Show and Late-Cancellation Policy?

The practitioners will wait for their patients up to 10 minutes at max before moving on to seeing the next patient. If the patients do not appear on screen via telehealth, it will be considered a NO SHOW and a fee will be charged to the patient. Appointments that are missed without notice will be charged a no-show fee or late cancellation fee of $75.00 and sometimes up to the full session cost, as allowed to the practice and provider by state law. Again, this leads to availability that is difficult to fill.
