FAQs

Get Your Questions Answered

1. I live outside of the state of Florida. Can I receive treatment from BeNu Integrative Psychiatry?

• BeNu Integrative Psychiatry primarily provides care through telepsychiatry while also offering a hybrid model that includes select in-person services at our Orange Park, Florida location for patients in the Greater Jacksonville Area.

• Your BeNu provider's ability to treat you depends on their licensure. All of our providers are licensed in Florida, with some also licensed in other states. As required by state laws and telehealth regulations, your provider can only treat and prescribe for patients residing in the states where they hold a license.

• Please contact our team to confirm which provider can legally treat you based on your location, as licensing laws may restrict services for individuals outside the licensed states.

2. Which insurance carriers does BeNu Integrative Psychiatry accept?

• All major commercial insurances, Tricare, and Medicare.

• Not accepted: Any HMO plans, Medicaid, Bright Health, Molina

• If your carrier requires authorizations, then it is your responsibility to obtain authorizations prior to being seen at BeNu.

3. What are your patient fees for services?

Please refer to our current patient fee schedule as of March 2025.

4. I need a letter or form filled out. How long can I expect this to take?

• Allow up to 7 to 14 days for the completion of paperwork.

• Please note there is an additional fee for this service per our patient fee schedule.

5. Will I receive therapy with medication management?

• You will receive supportive therapy during your visits with a BeNu mental health care provider. However, many patients pursue additional therapy to address specific issues.

• If you are interested in additional therapy, you can schedule an appointment with our experienced counselor, Kelly Mitchell, LMHC, NCC.

• Our team can also assist you in finding the right therapist for your needs.

• You can search on Psychology Today, which is a valuable resource for locating therapists who meet your specific requirements.

6. What are BeNu Integrative Psychiatry’s requirements for staying on a Suboxone maintenance plan?

• To continue your Suboxone treatment, you are expected to have monthly appointments with a BeNu mental health care provider.

• You will also need to participate in regular urine drug screens, for which you are responsible for both the cost and the arrangements with a reputable laboratory.

• It is important that you engage in a recovery program, such as Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Celebrate Recovery, or SMART Recovery.

• If outpatient treatment is ineffective, a BeNu mental health care provider will refer you to a more intensive treatment program than what can be offered through telepsychiatry.

7. How often should I expect to be seen by a BeNu provider?

• After your initial visit, you will be scheduled for a follow-up appointment within 2 to 4 weeks.

• After this, follow-up appointments are generally once a month for at least the first year of treatment.

• If you and your provider determine it is appropriate to extend the time between your visits, then your appointments may be scheduled every 2 to 3 months.

• The standard of care for mental health treatment is a minimum of 1 visit every 3 months.

• For specific medications that legally cannot have automatic refills and require more careful monitoring, you will be required to attend appointments at least once a month.

8. I know medications are just one part of getting better, and I want the most out of my treatment. What else should I be doing?

• Aim for consistent sleep, getting 6 to 8 hours each night.

• Upon waking, drink at least one liter of water.

• Take high-quality daily vitamins and minerals; ALIVE vitamins are a good choice and easy to find. Most people benefit from extra magnesium, B vitamins, vitamin D3, CoQ10, and omega-3 fatty acids.

• Maintain a balanced and healthy diet.

• Walk or exercise for at least 15 to 30 minutes every day.

• Journal regularly, including tracking your mood.

• Build a supportive community by joining support groups or small activity groups.

• Have regular check-ups and blood work completed with your primary care provider.

• Implement stress reduction strategies to lower cortisol levels (stress hormones that can cause weight gain, sleep disturbances, anxiety, and inflammation in the body).

• Consider additional therapy or counseling as needed.

9. I am going to run out of medication before my next appointment. What should I do?

• It is always a good idea to call the BeNu office or send a message through our Tebra Patient Portal when you have no less than a one-week supply of medication left. Please refer to our patient fee schedule regarding refills.

• If you are running low over the weekend, consider taking half of your normal prescribed dose or taking the medication as prescribed every other day to make it last until you can obtain a refill.

• Please note that medications are generally not refilled without an appointment. If an emergency refill is granted, it will be for a duration of 7 to 14 days and may incur a charge for each prescription.

10. I will be traveling outside of my residential state or country. Can I get refills of my medications?

• Planning Ahead: Well before traveling, discuss options for extended supplies with your BeNu provider. If you are traveling for an extended period or temporarily residing in a different state or country, we recommend establishing care with a provider licensed in the location where you will be staying to ensure continuity of treatment and access to necessary medication refills.

• Controlled Substances: The rules for prescribing controlled substances can differ by state and country, which may limit access while traveling. Your BeNu provider can only refill a controlled substance prescription via a scheduled appointment and if you are picking up the refill in a state where they are licensed (for example, Florida).

• Traveling Abroad: Some medications may be restricted internationally. Always carry your prescribed medications in their original containers with copies of the prescriptions.

• Local Laws: Check the medication regulations in your travel location to ensure compliance and avoid issues.
